Lecture 9: Four powerful leadership behaviors

The four leadership behaviors are:

  1. Value others
  2. Give (use the law of reciprocity)
  3. Invite participation
  4. Connect (Deep communications).

Each is made up of many small but powerful behaviors. Simple examples for each::

  • Value others: Saying hello in the morning or being empathetic
  • Give: Offering others your time or knowledge
  • Invite participation: Letting others join in decisions and planning
  • Connect with deeper communication: Having two way conversations, symbolic actions, and stories

Once you establish patterns of Value-Give-Invite-Connect, then you can us a fifth behavior, Nudge. A nudge is any polite way of challenging better performance.
